MIRACLE MONDAYS – Alex and Steve

For Steve and Christine, the birth of their son Alex came sooner than expected. “Circumstances were similar to her sister’s,” said Steve, Alex’s Dad. “That had happened 15 years earlier and she had lost the baby.”

There were emergency complications at 24 weeks and Alex was born at 26 weeks, 3 months early. “They delayed the delivery by 2 weeks,” Steve said. “We wanted to avoid a Friday the 13th delivery. He was finally born on Saturday the 14th and he weighed just 2 pounds. We heard a little peep and then he was rushed off.”

The months ahead would be challenging for Alex. “There were several operations and transfusions while he was still in the NICU. There were short term successes and immediate downturns. It was hard. The crucifix in the room really saved us.”

Alex pulled through and today he is 20 years old! He is a sophomore studying sports management at Oklahoma State University who loves watching sports, pets and cheering for the Cardinals.

“We are blessed to live here. The people at St. John’s are what saved Alex. We thank God every day for their help.”
