MIRACLE MONDAYS – Brooklyn and Brinleigh Fowler

  • There would be no such thing as a normal pregnancy for Katie Fowler and her twin girls. “It started when my placenta detached off my uterine wall at 12 week,” Katie said. “It was just enough to make me bleed heavy and assume the worse.”

Both girls were still fine and had strong heart beats, but Katie had a long road ahead. “Every day, every week would be a blessing,” she said. “I had a regular appointment with the doctor. On the way home I felt cramps, I thought they were Braxton Hicks. As I went to lay down I started to time them & they were 4 to 5 minutes apart and lasting anywhere from 15 seconds to 1 minute long. I went to the bathroom and the rest of my mucus plus blood as well came out.”

The Flight Crew from St. John’s came to get Katie and the girls. “It took about 18 minutes for them to get to Lincoln and took us 18 minutes to get back to St. John’s. By time they got me there and into the room, Brooklynn’s water broke and I suffered from a complete Placenta Seperation.

Katie was then rushed to the OR. “I was put to sleep and the last thing that was one my mind was if I even wake up, I’ll wake up and my babies wouldn’t be here with us. I woke up 4 hours later in excruciating pain but my babies were alive. On ventilators but VERY strong.”

Brooklyn and Brinleigh ended up spending almost two months in the NICU. “I spent every moment in the NICU as long as the Crisis Nursery would watch him. After almost 2 months in the NICU, I got to take my babies home. No oxygen problems, No life threatening problems!”

Katie will be forever grateful for the care she received at St. John’s. “If St Johns wouldn’t have responded as fast as they did, me and my girls would not be here. I am forever grateful for the hospital and one Specific Nurse name Emily who was my Nurse while I was there!”
