MIRACLE MONDAYS – Ella and Harper Brown

Chelsea Brown’s pregnancy was going as planned, until everything changed at 22 weeks. “At 22 weeks I was put on bedrest and at 24 weeks I was told I could have babies at any time,” she said. “At 25 weeks I had an emergency c-section.”

The birth of the Brown twins was just the beginning of the challenges that lay ahead for the Brown family. “The constant roller coaster ride in the NICU was terrifying. You woke up never knowing what would happen that day. We once had an afternoon in the NICU where Harper stopped breathing. They bagged her and the commotion of the doctors and nurses coming to her side was frightening.”

After a lengthy stay in the NICU, Ella came home first. “We were an hour away and I couldn’t sit up in the NICU anymore with Harper. I called the nurses constantly to check on her. One nurse told me that although she couldn’t make me feel better, your Ella has you now and Harper has all of us…so you are right where you need to be.”

Eventually, Harper did come home. Today, the Brown twins are six years old and they enjoy coloring, playing soccer and watching youtube videos!

“Now we have the smartest, funniest, sassiest little girls ever! They are both doing beyond amazing and I can barely remember life without them.”

As for the care her family received at St. John’s, the Brown family could not be happier. “I remember every single one of the doctors as being absolutely amazing! I could never say enough great things about the NICU doctors and nurses.”
